Messenger Service Ads
Are you getting popup ads that say Messenger Service?

Windows XP has what is called Windows Messenger Service. It was designed to help network administrators send messages to all users, but it has been taken over by spammers. This is NOT related to instant messaging services such as MSN Messenger or ICQ.
The good news is you can turn it off.

Accelerator Tip
Are you using SlipStream Accelerator with your PennSmart Dialup account?
Here's how to get the most out of it.
Click on the SlipStream globe in the system tray (by the clock) and select 'Settings' from the menu.
Under the 'Image Quality' tab slide the bar all the way to the left and click Ok. Pictures on websites will be very low quality, but your page load times will be very near DSL, evening surpassing DSL in some cases.
No web accelerators will speed up the actual connection or downloading files, such as mp3. Just web page and email loading is accelerated. Don't be fooled by other ISPs advertisements.

Accelerated Internet
It seems there are misleading radio and TV advertisements by other internet services about dialup accelerators. This has led to a lot of questions about it.
Here's our summary . . .
Accelerators are not "lightning fast" compared to regular dialup. They do accelerate certain functions such as web page loading. All accelerators do this by compressing graphics and text where possible and caching (temporarily storing) previously visited pages.
They cannot speed up your actual connection.
And acceleration varies a lot. This is why most honest internet services say "surf up to 5 times faster" not just "surf 5 times faster" as one radio ad is claiming. Downloading music or software will not be any faster since they are already compressed.
PennSmart's accelerator, SlipStream, is very good and can speed up many page loads by up to 3 to 5 times. It is not DSL or Cable, but for what it can do, the price it right.
Some are giving accelerators for "free".    As everyone knows, nothing is free. So those who don't want the accelerator are paying for it for the ones who do. We do not include SlipStream in our basic package because we want to keep our rates as low as possible. And since our equipment is state-of-the-art v.92, not old and outdated, our basic package already delivers an enjoyable online experience.
