To manually setup this filter do the following:
In Internet Explorer click on Tools at the top
Select Internet Options
Select the Connections tab Highlight the Default Dialup connection
Click on Settings to the right
Check the box that says "Use a proxy server for this connection"
In Address: enter proxy.filtered.us
In Port: enter 8080
Click Ok
Click Ok again
To manually remove the filter follow these same steps except UNCHECK the box that says "Use a proxy server for this connection"

What is Content Filtering?
Content Filtering is a way of blocking access to certain offensive sites.

How is the blocking done?
The blocking is done on our end by using a list of criteria such as words or known offensive site. Our setup program makes changes to your proxy settings so that all content is routed through our filter.

Can the filtering be disabled?
The filtering that is setup by the links on the PennSmart homepage can be enabled or disabled by clicking on the appropriate link. Because of this it is not recommended for those who do not want others (such as children) to be able to disable it. We do offer free blocking which cannot be disabled . . . even by you. Email support@pennsmart.com if you prefer this. But be aware that this is a permanent setting and cannot be changed back until the next billing period and you may not be able to reach some sites that you would like to. We suggest trying it out first before signing up for the permanent filter. It is very effective to prevent accidental access to offensive material.

Can anyone use it?
Our filtering system uses your connection's proxy settings. It will not work at the same time as other software on your computer that uses proxy settings, such as an accelerator. Be aware that installing our setup will remove any previous proxy settings. Also, the filtering only works with PennSmart dialup accounts ending with @pennsmart.com.

What is filtered?
The filter uses an algorithm to block offensive items including pornography and hate/violence sites,

Does it block all offensive content?
While our filter can be very effective, it is not perfect and some sites may get through. Also, our filter does not work for email content. The filter is provided as a free service to our customers and we make no guarantees as to the effectiveness of our filter.

What happens when I try to access a blocked site?
If a site you are trying to reach is block you will be sent to a warning page with the option to return to your previous page, similar to the graphics below.
