PennSmart Technologies
What is PennSmart?
PennSmart started in Titusville, PA in 2000 as the internet division of
ComputerCraft computer services. The explosive growth of PennSmart soon
overtook the sales and service part of ComputerCraft and in 2003 the company
name changed from ComputerCraft to PennSmart Technologies. PennSmart
Technologies is currently located at 101 S. Martin Street downtown Titusville.
PennSmart delivers nationwide internet access with hometown, personal
service. We have consistently provided the best deals in the area for
service and support. Originally our rates were $9.95 for 150 hours per
month and $14 for unlimited service. As our company grew, our service
improved and our rates dropped. Our unlimited service is now $9.95 per
month and as low as $8.25 paid annually.
How do we do it?
While some other local internet services use their own equipment
(purchased themselves or through government or industrial programs) to connect
to the major networks, PennSmart recognized that the internet is an ever
changing environment. It would not be efficient to continually need
updates to our equipment. Especially when many national communications
companies are already investing in new technologies. PennSmart takes
advantage of these by striking deals with the national companies. We
currently have relationships with 5 major network providers. In this way
our infrastructure is always state-of- the-art without having to pass the
investment cost on to our customers or, like some other cases, the taxpayers.. In addition, our diversification
allows us to offer internet with no busy signals.
As nationwide competition increases you will notice other local internet
services finally recognizing the advantages that PennSmart saw from the
beginning. You may begin to see the other area services also offer
nationwide access. Some have already followed our lead. This may be a sign that they are switching to a business plan
similar to PennSmart's. But unlike some other area ISPs who recently began
offering nationwide access, our connections are truly unlimited. The
others are still limiting their customers to 150 hours or less.
While some other local services pre-date PennSmart, many of them still use the
same outdated dialup equipment because it is too costly to update. Some
have decided to concentrate on other types of high profit access and not update
their dialup equipment. This ignores the fact that a majority of the
people in the area still use dialup for their internet access and that most do
not want to waste their hard earned money on high priced services they don't
need. With PennSmart, the updates are built-in. When
V.92 became the new standard, we were there.
PennSmart's business plan for access (we operate our email separately) is very similar to such giants as Earthlink,
MSN and AOL. In fact, most of our network providers also provide access to
those large companies. But PennSmart keeps costs down and passes on the
savings to our customers. That is why we can provide exactly the same
connection as MSN and Earthlink for less than half the price.
With each step forward we take, others scramble to catch up.
Who is PennSmart?
PennSmart was started by Edward D. Clark, Jr. Mr. Clark was raised in the area, graduating from Rocky Grove High School. He then joined the U.S. Coast Guard. While still on active duty in the military he attended Penn State University obtaining dual degrees in Electronic and Computer Engineering technologies. After a career in the military he made a brief stop in the San Francisco Bay area where he worked for several high tech companies. Not caring much for the granola in California he returned home and started ComputerCraft in 2000.
